Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What can I expect during my first counseling session?

A: During your first counseling session, I will begin by getting to know you and your reasons for seeking counseling. We will discuss your goals, concerns, and any specific issues you would like to address. This initial session is an opportunity for you to share your story and for us to establish a therapeutic relationship. We may also talk about your history and background to better understand your experiences and how they may relate to your current situation.

Q: Is what I share in counseling confidential?

A: Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of the counseling process. What you share in our sessions is kept private and secure, with a few exceptions required by law (such as cases of imminent harm to yourself or others). I prioritize your privacy and strive to create a safe, secure space for you to share openly.

Q: How long does each counseling session last?

A: Counseling sessions typically last around 50 minutes. However, session length may vary depending on your specific needs and circumstances. I strive to provide flexible scheduling to accommodate your availability and preferences. Initially, sessions may be scheduled on a weekly basis, and as progress is made, the frequency may decrease. I will work with you to create a schedule that best supports your therapeutic journey.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: I understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, so I ask that you notify us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Typically, I require at least 24 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee.

Q: How can I prepare for my counseling session?

A: Preparing for a counseling session can vary from person to person, but it may be helpful to reflect on your goals and concerns before your session. You might want to jot down any questions or topics you want to discuss. Remember, there's no right or wrong way to prepare—come as you are, and I will guide you through the process.
